My Story

It all started with a DSLR...a desire to write...and the rest is unfolding.

My passion for the creative arts as a whole, including journalism and media, started with photography. When I was five-years-old my family gave my an old Motorola flip phone that could only take photos, and from there passion was born. I sought out disposable cameras, old digital cameras, working my way up to newer and newer DSLR cameras, both teaching myself and taking classes at different levels, always learning and trying to find new, inventive ways to tell the hidden stories of society.

From there, I decided to change my story to tell other's stories both through journalistic writing and through media like screenwriting, video editing, producing and other methods.

I grew up in Chico, and graduated from Chico State with a Bachelor's degree in journalism and media arts. In my second year at Chico State I got my first job as a assistant photographer at a local studio. Shortly after that, I moved on to my second job at local broadcast news station Action News Now. I started out as just an evening and weekend assignment editor, but soon became a video editor. About a year into the job I started training to as a technical media producer, which lasted about eight months. At nearly my three year mark I interviewed for and was selected for a morning producer position.

During the same time I was at Action News Now, I also built my skills through other internships, such as at KCSC Radio at Chico State and the media advertisement company Metric Cosmetics. I also helped lead The Orion as a reporter, editor and eventually editor-in-chief, writing over 100 articles and learning how to be an effective leader and artist.
